For those who are planning to buy a domain, I made a list of great tips that will help you in choosing the right domain name for you. Getting the right domain name will help a lot when it comes to SEO. Below are the tips:

1. Domain Extension
   There are a lot of domain extensions to choose from and one of the most common is .com but it doesn’t mean that you should always get that one. There are also some reason why you should go for other domain extensions like for example, you live in Hong Kong and you have a business there and you want to target local community then you should get .hk for your domain.
   
2. Keep it short as much as possible
   One reason why you should choose a short domain name is, so that people will remember it easily. Get a short domain name but keyword rich and best describes your website. You can also do keyword research so you will know what keywords to use in your domain name. Domain name matters a lot when it comes to SEO.
   
3. Hyphenated Domain Names
   It all depends on the situation, let’s say that the domain name that you wanted is already taken so you can go and add hyphens and check if it’s available. As much as possible, I avoid using hyphenated domains because people will easily forget the hyphens and might go to your competitor’s website instead of yours. If said verbally, people said it without the hyphens so those were just some reasons why it is not a good idea to choose hyphenated domain names.

   Some people try to buy a domain name and use a famous company’s name so they can try to sell it to them. This is not a good idea because you might get sued for doing this kind of things. That is their trademark and their property so you have no right to take it from them.
   
5. Getting same domain name with different domain extensions
   Some company gets same domain names but different domain extensions because they want to make sure that no one else can take it from them. This is because some people take advantage of famous websites and gets same name but with different domain extension.
   
6. Valid Characters for Domain Name
   You can only use letters, numbers, and dashes when making your domain name. You can’t use spaces for your domain name.
