Harry Potter Prequel ! + Fantastic Beasts & Quidditch
NOTE: This is NOT a fan fiction. This is authentic.
J. K. Rowling announced on May 28, 2008 that she was writing a prequel story for English PEN, the writers' association, and the Dyslexia Society. The story, handwritten on a card and signed by J. K. Rowling, would then be auctioned off alongside thirteen similar cards from other authors on June 11th 2008, with the proceeds going to charity. The story card sold for £25,000 in the What's Your Story? auction at Waterstone's in Piccadilly and the set raised around £47,150 for the two charities. To quote Rowling herself ... The buyer of the Potter story card was Hira Digpal, president of Tokyo-based investment-banking consulting company Red-33. He had been prepared to make a maximum bid of £50,000, or twice the amount he finally paid. All but a handful of the 10,000 copies of What's Your Story? sold within hours of going on sale on Thursday, with customers at Waterstone's booksellers limited to two copies each. Waterstone's said the book would not be reprinted, turning copies into a collector's item. The quick sale is unusual for the short story genre, which traditionally sell fewer copies than writers' full-length novels. The zip also includes the two additional J.K.Rowling stories around Harry Potter - Quidditch Through the Ages & Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them. Quote:Fantastic Beasts is a reproduction copy of a textbook owned by Harry Potter and written by magizoologist Newt Scamander, a fictional character in the Harry Potter series of novels. In a interview with publisher Scholastic, Rowling stated that she chose the subject of magical creatures because it was a fun topic for which she had already developed a lot of information. Written by her, although Rowling's name does not appear on the cover of the book, the work being credited under the pseudonym "Newt Scamander". In the series, Magizoology is the study of magical creatures. Albus Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwarts, provides the Foreword and explains to the reader the purpose of the special edition of this book (the Comic Relief charity). The book is said to predate the events of the Harry Potter series. In light of events in the Potter books, several tongue-in-cheek references to "new information" are indicated by Harry Potter and Ron Weasley's doodles in Harry's version of the book (as published for Comic Relief). Quidditch Through the Ages is both a fictional book described in the Harry Potter series of novels by the English author J. K. Rowling, and a real book by that author, although her name is only stated in the book as the copyright holder of the "Harry Potter" name. The real book purports to be a reproduction of a copy of the fictional book held in the Hogwarts library, written by Kennilworthy Whisp. Within the fictional world of Harry Potter, Quidditch Through the Ages is written by Kennilworthy Whisp, a renowned Quidditch expert. The book traces the history of Quidditch, as well as the earliest broom-based games. According to Madam Pince, the copy in the Hogwarts library is "pawed about, dribbled on, and generally maltreated" nearly every day, which Albus Dumbledore says is high praise for any book. Harry Potter enjoyed this book. When Severus Snape caught Harry outside the school with this book in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, he invented the rule that no library books were allowed outside the school, and took it. Although the book predates Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, which takes place in 1991, the book contains numerous anachronisms such as comments on the outcome of a match played in 1994. Over 80% of the cover price of each book sold goes directly to poor children in various places around the world. According to Comic Relief, sales from this book and its companion Quidditch Through the Ages have raised £15.7 million. Hmmm - bit larger post than I first expected, but I wanted to get the facts right and make sure people remember where these books figure. Enjoy.
