The Autobiography of World of Warcraft Addon Zygor Guides updated 2-24-09Malcolm X
Here it is, the newly improved and updated Zygor mod for World of Warcraft.
For those unfamiliar with Zygor guides, it is a simple to install mod that walks you step by step thru the levelling process from the beginning (level 1) to the current max level (80). What is included? You will get an in-game walkthru for both alliance and horde, a viewer plugin, and as a special bonus, a guide to getting the netherdrake mount (high level stuff) and a talent build recommendation for each class. What has been updated this version? Update 02/24/09: *Entire guide has now been updated to have virtually no grinding * Revised quest path for patch 3.0.9. * Corrected errors and removed all grinding in the 13-60 portion of the guide * Options button is now functional again. * New option for the guide to expand upward for larger steps * Small guide window title bar has been changed (removed location and level values) * Added a new lock feature which allows users to lock the guide in place so it can't be moved. You will see a new lock image on the small guide window title bar that allows you to lock/unlock the guide. * You are now able to click through the small guide window on objects behind the guide as if it were transparent. The only way to move the small guide window is by clicking and dragging the title bar on it. * You are now able to scroll the guide steps in the small guide window by simply hovering over the small guide window and scrolling your mouse wheel up to go forward and down to go backwards in the steps. Update 16.01.09: * All Races' 1-13 Starter guides have been reworked to have 0% grinding. NONE! * HORDE ONLY - Fixed errors due to race in beginning of 13-20 section of the guide * HORDE ONLY - Fixed many errors in Orc and Troll 1-13 Starter guides * Eastern Plaguelands map dot locations fixed in both guides * Guides will no longer allow you to see wrong class quests for your character * ALLIANCE ONLY - Fixed low level boat routes Coming up in the next release (sometime in March from my understanding), a complete rework of the rest of the quest sections beyond 13 to remove grinding, correct quest giver locations, remove a few quests no longer in the game, remove the Aldor/Scryer quests from the guide in their entirety, and as stated on their forums, possibly an in-game addon for talent specs. Why do I put this up on BG? Simply because I think $50 for a levelling mod (or $100 for both alliance and horde) is far too expensive especially when you consider mods like carbonite and questhelper are far cheaper or free (in the case of questhelper). Even tho they function a bit differently than Zygors mods, the end result is pretty much the same thing. Additionally, for the price, I expect the mod to be damn near flawless. Zygor is not. saddly, it has a ton of errors, has you do quests that are a waste of time (assuming you are aiming for levelling as fast as possible - take a look at the quests you do at the beginning of level 50 in the badlands - took me nearly all day to grind for all the items required for those potion quests), and even has you make permanent decisions that affect your characters options for recipes for crafting (Aldor quest you do shortly after entering Shat for the first time). Additionally, all of the boats are still wrong in the level 13+ sections of the guide and considering the patch that changed how the boats worked was released nearly 6 months ago, this should have been fixed by now. Also, consider that most people who would use this kind of mod would be relatively new players that havent levelled many toons and the boat mistakes would make things damn frustrating (go to menethil harbor and catch the boat to darnassus...huh? Why am I getting my ass kicked by level 68 critters). Add to the fact that if you browse thru the steps, the waypoints seem to disappear and the only way to get them to come back is to do a /reloadui. For those looking for an alternative to Zygor, take a look at a mod called Tourguide (can be found on [Only Registered users can see links . Click Here To Register...], in the search box type tourguide). Its completely free and if you look in the comments section on the above mentioned website for that mod, you will find a link to a ton of guides that can be used with Tourguide (it comes with a number of guides pre-built however). However, if you use this in conjunction with Carbonite (I also posted this on BG - just do a search and its pretty easy to find), if the Zygor guide has a mis-marked location, just revert to carbonite. Or, do what I do, use Zygor purely for the 'what quests should I pick up', then use carbonite to actually complete the quests. However, all that being said, I have followed the zygor guide to the letter (with exception to not doing 2 quests such as the Aldor rep quests, dragonkin menace - which is no longer in the game, and doing 2 additional quests not included in the guide, the pages of stranglethorn in stranglethorn vale, some quest where I picked up some plans and delivered them to a person in terrokar - easy xp), it has been overall pretty decent. I in fact ended up in the Outlands at 61.5 and I should be heading to northrend but Im going to finish out the outlands section (I estimate Ill be 71 before I head to Northrend). It has been a fairly decent but overpriced guide riddled with errors but manageable. Its worth using, not worth paying for. So now that I have convinced you that this isnt that great, here are the installation instructions. 1. Start by downloading the torrent (hmm...bet you couldnt figure that out). 2. Unzip the following 3 folders to your WoW/interface/addons folder a. ZygorGuidesAlliance b. ZygorGuidesHorde c. ZygorGuidesViewer 3. Launch WoW 4. Login and get to the character select screen 5. Look in the lower left corner of the screen and click the red button labeled 'Addons' 6. In the top section of the window that comes up, tick the 'load out of date addons box. 7. Scroll down the list and verify that Zygor Guides viewer is selected and has no issues (will say next to the name of the mod if there is an issue). 8. Select either Zygor Guides Alliance or Horde depending on your toon. Optional, when in game, press escape and go to interface, select the addons tab and scroll down to zygor guides for configuration options. Additionally, when in-game, in the upper right window of the zygor addon box, there is an arrow pointing up. Clicking this will shrink the window and show objectives for the current quest you are on. I have removed cartographer from the download as well as TomTom because, well, they are free mods (links below). Cartographer is a map mod that will enhance your map experience (but if you use the full version of Carbonite as I do, do not use cartographer). TomTom is a mod that will allow you to create waypoints. You need one of these for Zygor to give you the arrows to your next destination. I recommend tomtom because it doesnt interfere with carbonite and is very simple to use. Another mod I recommend is something called Lightheaded. It gives you other players synopsis on any quest in the game that you have in your log without ever having to leave WoW. Its handy because you can now do searches by quest name or click a quest in your log to get more information. Handy because the quest giver locations, the locales where you hand the quest in, coordinates for where to do the quest, (all the above are clickable and if you have tomtom installed will give you an arrow pointing to the location of whatever you clicked on), xp, rep rewards, item rewards, special notes on the quest, etc. Great questing mod. And grab doublewide - expands your quest log into 3 frames - left most is your quest list (quests you currently have), middle frame is Blizzards quest information, right most frame is Lightheadeds frame. Links - (you need either tomtom or cartographer for Zygor to function correctly!!) TomTom (Highly recommended) Code: Code:
