Advisory Panel Will Decide Fate of Blood Clotting Drug

An FDA advisory panel will meet in February to decide the fate of a blood clot preventing drug called prasugrel.
The FDA have stalled twice in the approval process of the drug, which does not bode well for the future for the blood clot preventer.
The drug is jointly marketed by Eli Lilly and Daiichi Sankyo, and if approved would compete with plavix, one of the biggest drugs sold in the world.
prasugrel works by preventing blood platelets from binding together, thus forming blood clots.
In Europe, a panel of experts have already recommended that the drug be approved.
The drug if approved, would be given to patients following artery clearing procedures.
