In my opinion the top original search engines 12 years ago (around there can't remember) were excite placement, northern light, alta vista, lycos... Those are the old popular ones. Now its google, yahoo, live aol and go

I loved the question it brings me back to the past.. As far as I know Lycos was the firdst leading search engine before google.. If I am wrong it was yahoo because I used to use Yahoo ^.^
