Default Coaching Girls Soccer

Coaching girls soccer is an enjoyable position that comes with plenty of rewards and challenges. This article details a number of ways for you to make the best of your soccer coaching experience.
Coaching girls soccer is a very important job. There are subtle differences between male and female players that should definitely be taken into account when leading a girls soccer team. Luckily, most of these are social variances that can be taken care of by keeping certain things in mind while coaching. Here are some key points to remember.

Encourage Confidence

Coaching girls soccer is a great opportunity for you to build confidence in young female athletes. While other sports may be difficult for girls to compete in because of their emphasis on physical strength, soccer is a fairly equal game. It is more about timing, agility, and speed than raw power, and thus plays to girls’ strengths. For this reason, many coaches believe that soccer gives girls the chance to excel in a world that has traditionally been dominated by men.

Young girls are often restricted by gendered social roles in our society. By helping them to improve their soccer skills, you are encouraging them to believe in themselves and work hard to achieve their dreams. Keep this in mind when coaching your girls soccer team.

Emphasize Teamwork

Studies have shown that while boys are more task-oriented, girls are more focused on people and relationships. This means that what girls’ teammates think and feel may be more important to them than winning a particular soccer game. As a coach, instead of focusing solely on beating other teams, be sure to foster a safe environment where girls can rely on and trust one another. This will lead to a very cohesive team unit in the end.

You can also encourage teamwork by maintaining a positive atmosphere through your coaching style. Girls are more likely to take criticism personally, which means that barking orders at them is more likely to hurt their playing skills than improve them. Treat all members of the team fairly, and take bullying problems seriously. Also, be sure to make it clear to your players that working together and cooperating is essential to the success of the team.
