Why do people talk on their mobile phones nearly constantly, even if it is a pointles

I work in customer service and constantly come across people who will not get off of their phone, no matter what. Everyday I hear conversations that are of no relevance (nor interest to me) to the transaction that is being conducted that I have to endure while waiting on people.
