To make a good and rich content, you should not write for SEO reasons to recognize keywords and phrases that makes the site. You have to write for people who read your site and if it is very good, definitely recommend your site to others as well. This is the way to wear a white hat. The rule of thumb is that your site must not contain too many keywords and should not be viewed as a page that is optimized exclusively for search engines.
