US dollar up, gold down in European morning trading

The U.S. dollar was higher against other major currencies in European trading Thursday morning. Gold fell.

The euro traded at US$1.5431, down from US$1.5571 late Wednesday in New York.

The British pound was quoted at US$1.9475, down from $1.9631.
